The Vision
Chris’s ambition to start a club was born when he was general manager of a large sports and leisure club in Surrey.
He wanted to do things better. To nurture and encourage members. To deliver Customer Service at the highest level.
He had to overcome numerous setbacks over many years before he could open the club in Woking, Surrey.
Road to Success
His club offered indoor and outside
tennis courts, a gymnasium, exercise studio, pool, restaurant, clubroom,
nursery school, day care centre and crèche.
His commitment to Customer Service was legendary. Staff members – “The Green Team” – were trained to make members feel they were the most important part of a member’s day.
Award-Winning
Chris developed a junior section to nurture younger tennis players. He built a dedicated sports hall for children’s’ activities. The club won numerous awards, including Outstanding UK Sports and Leisure Club, and grew to over 4500 adult members and 1500 children.
In 2002 Chris accepted an offer from the David Lloyd chain of leisure centres to buy the club outright.
