Chris Lane
Mentoring
Chris offers himself as a personal mentor to business and sports people: someone who can act as a sounding board , perhaps act as a catalyst , also be prepared to give hard advice where appropriate or simply to chat the matters over generally.
It’s something Chris wishes he’d had himself during his ups and down as an entrepreneur.
It occurred to him, when running a business with 150 staff, that a lot of time, money and energy was being spent on training and developing them, but no one was developing Chris himself, the Managing Director. He asks: “Was I supposed just to know it all?”
He offers himself to you, personally, as a sounding board and adviser, in case you feel the same way he did. “Success in life goes to those who deal with adversity and failure in the right way,” he says. “All my life I’ve striven to be an achiever . Often I got there , sometimes I didn’t but I never gave up . I’ve made some great decisions and some dumb ones – and learnt a lot on the way.
“From being a teacher to touring the world as a pro athlete, to starting a business without any capital, to selling it for many millions, to opening others with my own money and losing it: I’ve had a rich tapestry of priceless experience.
“It was hard doing everything on my own … and lonely. I wish I’d had a mentor I could have used as a sounding board, asked opinions of, or simply just shot the breeze with over matters generally.”
If you feel that way yourself, Chris can offer you an enthusiasm for business, commitment, experience at the sharp end, advice, support and encouragement. And he’ll understand you’re the boss and the last word is always yours. So, although you might not take his advice, you and he will never fall out over it!
